Roy Dorey

In 1984 Roy joined the delayed entry program. Two weeks after he graduated high school (in June of 1985) he was off to Basic Training for the Army. After Basic, he went to infantry school. He also attending signal school in Ft. Gordon, Georgia. Next, he went to Ft. Lewis, Washington from where he deployed to Korea for a year deployment in support of protection of the Demilitarized Zone. He re-enlisted for another year tour but this time was assigned to southern Korea. From Korea he returned to Ft. Riley, Kansas from where he was deployed to support Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Iraq.

After returning home he received orders to Stuttgart, Germany. Then came down-sizing of the Army and he took a buy-out, left the Army and focused on trying to salvage his marriage. His wife and he struggled from the separation caused by his deployments and eventually went through a divorce. His wife took their child and Roy lost contact with his first child. Roy is a survivor of PTSD and suicide.

Roy had to go through a lot to get to where he could date again. He eventually found another woman and they married. They had a child and adopted another. This marriage failed as well. After losing everything… his family, business, etc. he joined the Michigan National Guard. He had several assignments throughout Michigan. Roy was also deployed to Iraq again and after returning, struggled with PTSD once more.
He was involved in a serious car accident and nearly lost my life. They put a steal rod in his leg to hold the femur together. He was able to fight back, however, and after a year of rehabilitation he deployed again, this time to Afghanistan. After this deployment Roy spent a few more years in the Army then retired in 2021.
Roy Says… “Thank You Bucket List Dreams and God bless IGY6… SSG Dorey, Retired”.

Roy has had a difficult life to say the least. But he still cares and gives to his “Brotherhood”… the US Military Veteran Community. Roy has helped BLD to organize a great event… he is taking a group of fellow Vets to the Detroit Tigers Opening Home Game. This is quite an event in Michigan, and we are sure that they will all enjoy it.

Thank you, Roy, for all that you have done for this country and you tremendous sacrifices. We at BLD appreciate you and wish to provide some ‘FUN’ for you… you deserve it… enjoy the game!!!
